Detoxification

Detoxification at Northridge Recovery

The first step — safely managed.

On TV, addiction treatment looks like counseling and group therapy. Those are real parts of the process — but they are not where it begins. The first step is most often detox.

People sometimes try to detox alone, but the side effects of withdrawal can be severe and, without medical supervision, life-threatening. At Northridge Recovery, we give every client the resources they need to safely complete detox — moving from hopelessly addicted to hopeful and on the road to long-term recovery.

What is detox?

The body’s reset — safely supervised.

Detox is the physical clearing of drugs and alcohol from your system. It happens naturally once a person stops using — and so does withdrawal.

Depending on a person’s health, completing detox without support can be incredibly difficult. There are different types of detox programs designed for different situations — finding the right one matters.

At Northridge Recovery, we monitor and protect every client’s health throughout the process. We treat the side effects of withdrawal so that detox stays as tolerable as possible — tolerable enough that clients complete it and move forward into the next phase of treatment.

Why detox first

Treatment can’t start while drugs are still in the system.

Professional detox helps an addicted person move through withdrawal without relapsing, so they arrive at treatment completely clean. Having drugs in the system during therapy only hinders the work.

As drug use continues, the body craves more. Going through withdrawal lets the body reset back toward normal. Without that reset, cravings continue mid-treatment — which can derail every other gain being made.

What to expect

Our drug & alcohol detox in Los Angeles.

Detox typically lasts 5–7 days but may run longer depending on the individual. Throughout, the person is supervised — kept contained and away from the outside factors that might tempt a return to use.

Health personnel are on hand to manage any issue that arises. In some cases medication is part of the plan — for pain, cravings, or underlying health and mental health conditions. The goal: get the drugs out of the body so treatment can begin.

Why local matters

Detox close to home, not across the country.

Having a detox center in your own backyard means more immediate access to detox and to ongoing treatment. You don’t have to search the country to find the right fit for your situation.

It also keeps you close to the friends and family who carry you through the work — the support system that makes the difference in moments of stress or crisis.

And going to your Northridge detox center makes the transition from detox to full treatment seamless. No second admission, no second intake — both phases happen at one place.

Choosing a detox center

What to look for in a detox center in Los Angeles.

Three things to insist on, before anything else.

01 / Experience

Familiar with your substance.

Withdrawal symptoms vary by substance. Make sure the staff has worked with the type of addiction you’re facing.

02 / Medical support

Real options for hard moments.

Withdrawal can be painful, and dangerous when underlying health issues are present. Medication-assisted detox should be available.

03 / Compassion

Treated as a person, not a number.

Some centers run clients through the system. Each person deserves to be treated as an individual — with respect, and with care.

What to know

A few things before you call.

Length of Stay

Most programs run 30–90 days. Some clients benefit from a longer stay depending on their clinical needs and history of care.

Experience

Decades of combined experience across our clinical, medical, and recovery-support teams — treating each client like an individual, not a number.

Confidential

Your care is 100% confidential and HIPAA-protected from your first phone call through discharge and beyond.

Begin your journey

Long-term healing starts the day detox ends.

If you’re ready to get clean and sober, our highly trained staff uses the latest treatments and protocols to keep clients in recovery healthy and comfortable. We’ll be there for you through the whole process — including the transition to the next phase, after detox.
